Registering Windows For Updates

You must register you copy of Windows 98 at Microsoft's Update web site before you can download any system updates, patches or fixes. By registering your copy of Windows, you are sending your personal data to Microsoft, including the key code you used when installing Windows, to Microsoft for future reference. If you have not registered your copy of Windows with Microsoft you can still download any patches, updates and fixes from the Windows Update web site. Use Notepad to create a new file and copy these lines into it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion]"RegDone"="1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Welcome\RegWiz]"@"="1"

Save the file as 'REGUSER.REG'. Double-click on the newly created file to register the information into the registry. Now you can run the Windows Update icon in the Start menu.
